Professional Development





ISM supports professional development for teachers either through a delegation to external workshops and conferences or through organizing a wide variety of events on campus. All of which aim to address specific areas of professional growth that impact student learning.

STEPS AND GUIDELINES TO APPLY FOR FUNDING





Discuss PD plans with your respective principals and have professional leave days approved before applying for funds.


Fill up the funding application form and submit it to your principals alongside with the event information flyer.


The leadership team approves PD funding application based on the following criteria:


  • PD is aligned with the identified areas of professional growth.
  • Clarity of observable indicators that the funded PD impacts student learning.
  • A plan is in place to immediately implement learning from PD to practice.
  • Willingness to share learnings from PD to the ISM community either through a written reflection and/or an echoing session with colleagues.
  • On-going contract with ISM the following school year if PD is scheduled after the cut-off date. (Usually, the cut off date is on Nov 15th.)


The Director of Curriculum formally communicates the decision to the staff.


The staff who received funding is responsible for making arrangements to be present at the workshop/conference on time and be back safely in ISM.


Accounting of receipts is required to be reimbursed for the approved amount. Attach all receipts in the reimbursement form together with a copy of the participation certificate.

To ensure that all staff aims toward collective efficacy in achieving high standards of learning and performance. ​


CAPACITY FOR LEADERSHIP AND POSITIVE REPRESENTATION


To ensure that all staff has leadership capacity who shares the vision and mission of the school and reputably represents ISM in the larger international community.


SUBJECT-AREA MASTERY


To ensure that all staff has mastery of their subject-area is able to unpack and interpret standards and employs best practice.


BACKWARD DESIGN


To ensure that all staff is able to plan and design learning backward and are able to articulate this using the Understanding by Design template.


ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING


To ensure that all staff is able to assess for understanding and higher thinking skills and not simply administer tests to measure rote knowledge.


USING DATA TO IMPROVE LEARNING


To ensure that all staff is capable of gathering and interpreting meaningful data from assessments and various sources and uses them to inform and improve learning.


STRATEGIES FOR DIFFERENTIATION


To ensure that all staff is able to purposefully adjust and differentiate instruction based on various information.


TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION


To ensure that all staff is skillfully disposed and responsible in using technology in the classroom and is able to guide students accordingly.
